EarthShatteringly Great Music - Must be the week for it...
I've not listened to much Jazz recently -I think I overloaded on it a couple of years back. I was surprised (but probably should not have been) to be craving Winter In Europe 1967, a recent live album with music from the Miles Davis Quintet's tour of that year. This is the Quintet (Davis, Coltrane, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams) exhibting what can only be described as musical telepathy.
Beyond the assertion that Jazz hasn't evolved past this point (and you'll be hard pressed to find anything that even approaches this record's magnificence in the 40 years of jazz recordings since), despite the now world-renown of each of the individuals involved, this is the most visceral, unbridled and emotive music I've heard in many a day - If "Footprints" doesn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will...
Special Note - Do you like the drums, play the drums, want to play the drums or even find the drums or drumming even slightly interesting? It was Tony Williams on drums that made this Quintet what it was....Check out the opening remarks by Tony on "Gingerbread Boy" - Holy!
eMusic has clips, but you can stream the whole album from my iTunes - download SimplifyMedia at SimplifyMedia.com and look me up! Santanick66 is my username and the music's on my Work computer.
