Label 2.0 - Keeping it Local

Comments

I know you kind of point this out anyway, but doesn't the internet kind of nullify some of the past trends (i.e. an explosion of musical success from a certain area)? Of course, word of mouth is still probably the most important factor in spreading music, but I don't have to live in the same city as you to get recommendations from you any more. "Neighbour" isn't really a geographical term any more.

Also, great Elton John link.
Maybe not the best person to quote, given my advocacy of Label 2.0, but there's a certain truth to what Lyor Cohen said:

"As much as technology transforms the world, as powerful as all these peer-to-peer or social networks are becoming, the most important network is still composed of real, live people dealing with one another face-to-face. Showing up in person still matters. It's true in friendship. It's true in business. It's true in music. When certain people walk into a room, molecules change, energy shifts--and things start to happen."
